Alexander Kamp launched a fierce attack in Tour de Fjords finale

The 183 kilometer long queen stage of the Tour de Fjords between Farsund and Egersund was concluded with a wonderfully entertaining finale on a demanding circuit where VIRTU Cycling’s young delegation launched a promising attack.

However, the World Tour teams controlled the race from the start and even though a group consisting of Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo), Maxime Monfort (Lotto Soudal), Luis Mas Bonet (Caja Rural) and Nathan Earle Israel Cycling Academy) managed to escape from the field, they were never really a threat for the bigger teams.

When the field reached the circuit in Egersund, the field was split into pieces on the tough route. With 4 kilometers left of the race, VIRTU Cycling´s Alexander Kamp tried to get away from the minimized main field but the overpower became too big a mouthful. In the run-up, only 21-year-old Bjørg Lambrecht from Lotto-Soudal hit the finish line first to take the stage victory, while Michael Albasini (Mitchelsen-Scott) took the overall victory in the Norwegian race.

Sports director Michael Skelde says:

“Unfortunately, we did not get a visible result in the bag in the Tour de Fjords, but I’m proud of the way the team has performed both internally and in the field among the major World Tour squads. They have entered the fight with the right attitude without holding back and they have acted just as professionally as the bigger teams when we talk about the internal strategy. Today, Alexander decided to launch his attack a little further out and it’s very positive to experience him with such power in a finale with such strong teams and riders around him. He matches the best in a hard finale and so I’m completely satisfied with the effort, “says Skelde.
