Close sprint finish in OVO Energy Women´s Tour
Today´s 145 kilometer long second stage of OVO Energy Women´s Tour was launched in Rushden and took the field through a beautifully hilly landscape to finish in Daventry where a small group sprint finish concluded the stage. Unfortunately, Team VIRTU Cycling Women were not represented in the top-10.
A long solo breakaway by Maaike Boogaard dominated the first part of the stage but the lonely rider was caught with 60 kilometers to go. From then on, it was all about attacks in the undulating terrain and finally, a small group made it to the finish line where Coryn Rivera outsprinted the experienced Marianne Vos. Tomorrow’s stage takes the peloton through an even more demanding terrain where the sprinters will have to dig deep in order to make it to the finish line in the first group. The race ends Sunday.
