Double victory on the final stage of Gracia Orlová

Double victory on the final stage of Gracia Orlová

Roughly half way through the final stage, Mieke Kröger and Marta Bastianelli escaped the peloton. They quickly built up a big gap, and the peloton never managed to catch the two riders as the team kept neutralizing all breakaway attempts.

Mieke Kröger could cross the finish line first together with Marta Bastianelli.

DS Carmen Small expresses her satisfaction with the team performance:

“I’m really happy with the outcome of the race. Not just because we won, but it was important for the development of the team and for some of the younger or newer riders to have this experience. They learned how to control the race and win. Marta was able to get the team to really work together and this was the primary objective. I’m super happy with the development of the team!”

With this stage victory, Team Virtu Cycling wins 5 out of 5 stages in Gracia Orlová with three different riders. The team also won the team competition, while Marta Bastinelli becomes the overall winner of the race, winner of the points classification and the king of the mountains classification.

With this success DS Carmen Small aims to prepare the team towards the coming races on the WorldTour calendar:

“I knew going into this tour it was a good race to keep developing the team. It gives some of the riders opportunities to win but also teaches some of them how to ride more as a team. To practice things that sometimes they cannot in the WorldTour races.”

Next big race for Team Virtu Cycling will be the Spanish stage race Emakumeen XXX. Bira from the 22nd to 25th of May.
