Guarischi 5th in hectic and dramatic OVO Energy-finale

The 130 km long fourth and penultimate stage of OVO Energy Women’s Tour from Evesham to Worcester was dominated by a breakaway consisting of three riders, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Audrey Cordon-Ragot and Charlotte Becker.

The challenging but beautiful English landscape formed the backdrop of today’s stage and with 19 kilometers again, Danish Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig attacked and managed to retain her fellow-companions behind for a while but they reeled her back and it wasn’t until just 4 kilometers remaining, that the field finally bridged the gap to the three riders.

In a powerful counter-attack, VIRTU Women’s Sara Penton made a solid attempt to take the stage but the hard-working Swede was brought back before the finish line.

In the hectic bunch sprint, Team VIRTU Women’s Barbara Guarischi finished 5th while Dane Amalie Didriksen was the fastest of all.

Guarischi says:

“It was a very fast and dangerous finale with wet roads after a few dry days in England so the surface was treacherously slippery. However, I was eager to get to the front so I just put my head down, thundered away and hoped for the best entering the finish line and I managed to finish 5th. It was a good result for me personally and it might have been my last opportunity in this race. Tomorrow’s stage will be very different and will settle the GC overall”, says the Italian sprinter.

Coryn Rivera still leads the race overall.
