Guarischi finishes 10th on OVO Energy Tour first stage

The 130 kilometer long first and rather flat stage of the British race, OVO Energy Tour from Framlingham to Southwold was dominated by breakaways but ultimately, everyone was reeled back in for a bunch sprint where Team VIRTU Cycling Women´s Barbara Guarischi finished 10th.

“In the finale, the team tried to deliver me in a good position and Christina (Siggaard) and Mieke (Kröger) were a solid support in front of me until the last kilometer. After the last turn 300 meters to the finish line, I unfortunately found myself in the windside,, which meant that I had to fight side by side with the others in a somewhat unfortunate position, so I had to settle with a tenth, “said Italian Guarischi after the stage.

The stage ended with a victory for the Belgian national champion, Jolien D’Hoore, who started the race as she finished last year’s edition of the race to win the stage. The race stretches over a total of five stages and tomorrow a 145 kilometer long hilly stretch is due from Rushden to Daventry.

“I’m expecting a little harder stage tomorrow but we also expect a bunch sprint decision and then I’ll have a second chance to flash the colors. From then on, it will be a little harder for the sprinters to come through to the final so we have to get the most out of the stage tomorrow”, concludes Guarischi.
