Guldhammer conquers top spot of the podium in Horsens!
Team Waoo’s Rasmus Guldhammer took an awesome victory crossing the finish line in solitude after 141 kilometers in harsh winds and hilly terrain in the landscape around Horsens.
This afternoon, Team Waoo took a warm welcome victory in the fifth department of the Xtreme Cup after the team’s Jesper Schultz last weekend had to settle with second place in the same race series. With just 50 starting riders, it was a hard and intense cycle race over the 141 kilometers divided into six laps on a windblown and hilly route.
At Yding Skovhøj the field exploded and Team Waoo had four riders in the 16-man breakaway. With ten kilometers to the finish line, Jesper Schultz attempted a sneaky attack and in the counter-move, Guldhammer created the crucial gap with Mathias Bregnhøj (BHS-Almeborg Bornholm) and Mads Kristensen (Team Herning).
However, the trio split up at the entrance of the last kilometer:
“I chose to launch the attack with a kilometer to the finish line and when I first created the gap, I knew the victory was there. It’s always a great feeling to go first across the finish line but it could just as well be one of my teammates succeeding today. All six of us did a great race and they deserved the success just as much as me. It is the first victory of the season for me and it is of course, personally, it’s redeeming after a season that has been affected by my back injury. It’s great to be able to finish off the season with a victory and we hope to repeat it next weekend, “said a happy Rasmus Guldhammer after the race.
Sports director Michael Gregersen says:
“The team were motivated and energetic and on several occasions the field broke where we were constantly represented with more riders in the front group. So they were really hungry today, and I hope to gather the same winning mentality in this year’s last two races on the home calendar next weekend “.
