Jesper Schultz with great expectations before Fleche du Sud: “If I do it right, I believe I can win”

Wednesday May 29thTeam Waoo will be on the startline for the first stage of the traditional stage race in Luxembourg Fleche du Sud. With previous winners, such as Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas, Andy Schleck and Alex Zülle – and a second place for our own Bjarne Riis in 1984 – it is a race which many believe predicts the coming Tour de France stars.

Jesper Schultz from Team Waoo, who earlier this year has proven strong in hilly races such as Sundvolden GP and Volta Limburg Classic, looks forward to another race in his terrain: “My expectations to Fleche du Sud are really high. If I do it right and my head is there 100%, I really believe I can win” explains Schultz.

The strong climber, who took a 4thplace in Sundvolden GP last weekend, is eager to win in Luxembourg: “I am really hungry for a win, and with the experience I can draw upon from the past races I really feel ready.”

Team Waoo has been struck by accidents and injuries this spring, which has resulted in fewer results than expected. Jesper Schultz though underlines that the team spirit is intact, and motivation is high.

He also underlines the necessity of staying focused while under pressure: “We have a narrow palette of riders while people are injured, and it put a bit more pressure on the others. But we stick together both riders and the team behind us. Focus is on Fleche du Sud right now, because if you look too far ahead, you lose it. Of course, there is the nationals and Tour of Denmark a bit further ahead, but we have some races before that, which have to be ridden with focus and the right motivation.”

Fleche du Sud runs from May 29thuntil June 2nd.
