Kasia Pawlowska Team VIRTU Cycling’s best rider in Amstel Gold Race
Kasia Pawlowska was Team VIRTU Cycling’s best rider in Amstel Gold Race after a strong break managed to hold of the peloton to the finish.
Team VIRTU Cycling fought hard in Amstel Gold Race, but the riders missed out when a strong break of eight riders went clear halfway through the race. They quickly gained a huge lead, that the peloton couldn’t bring down.
Katrine Aalerud and Kasia Pawlowska did well to keep in the front of the peloton into the last kilometers of the race, and the Polish rider finished as Team VIRTU Cycling’s best rider in 20th place, while Katrine Aalerud unfortunatly crashed and had to abandon
“We didn’t make the break, and then it was a little late to do anything or chase from there. Katrine crashed and had to go to the hospital, so I told Kasia just to go for it in the peloton’s sprint, but sitting alone in the end it is difficult. It was a rough start to this Ardennes week for us,” sport director på Team VIRTU Cycling Carmen Small says.
It was Chantal Blaak from Boels-Dolmans, that won Amstel Gold Race in front of Lucinda Brand and Amanda Spratt.
