Kirsten Wild wins Gent-Wevelgem – Marta Bastianelli keeps the overall lead

Kirsten Wild (WNT-Rotor) won the women’s Gent-Wevelgem yesterday in a bunch sprint after 136,9 km. Marta Bastianelli finished 4th.

The race included climbs like Banebarg, Kemmelberg and Monteberg, which all was passed twice during the race. There was a high pace throughout the race, and with nearly 43 km/h it was difficult for riders to escape the peloton.

Marta Bastianelli says that a lot of riders took part in the finale sprint:

Today was a fast but not super hard race, so it was a big peloton of fresh riders who was sprinting in the end.

She also point out her teammates efforts to keep her at the front all day, which helped her keep the overall leader’s jersey in the Women’s WorldTour.

Next race is Dwars Vlaanderen, Wednesday April 3rd.
