Linda Villumsen and Trine Schmidt with great performances on the last stage of Women’s Herald Sun Tour

On the final ITT in Women’s Herald Sun Tour both Linda Villumsen and Trine Schmidt had some great performances, which brought Linda Villumsen into the top 10 in the GC.

In Women’s Herald Sun Tour Team VIRTU Cycling had to do a 1,6-kilometer ITT on the 2nd and final stage of the Australian race. Both Linda Villumsen and Trine Schmidt was among the best, as they finished 11th and 12th just under six seconds after the winner – ruling ITT World Champion Annemiek van Vleuten.

Bronze medalist at the Danish ITT Championship Louise Norman Hansen also put in a good performance as she placed 23rd with only two seconds to her two teammates. All the Team VIRTU Cycling riders finished in the top half of the ranking on the stage and sports director Carmen Small are happy with the attitude the riders brought to the stage.

“It was good, I told them all to go hard, and the goal was just to see what they could do. It is the end of the trip, so the motivation is not as high, but they still rallied, and I think the girls performed very well today,” Carmen Small says.

With 11th place Linda Villumsen moved up in the GC and made it into top 10, which gave some UCI-points for Team VIRTU Cycling. Women’s Herald Sun Tour was also the team’s last race in Australia, and Carmen Small is happy with how the first races of the season went.

“It was really good, they got some really good training in, the morale in the team has been boosted and it’s a really good cohesive group. So, all that taking in consideration it has been pretty good,” Carmen Small says.

A small race break now await Team VIRTU Cycling before the European season begins in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 24th of February.
