Lots of aggressive riding from Team VIRTU Cycling in Liege-Bastogne-Liege
Team VIRTU Cycling tried to make the most of their opportunities by being aggressive in large parts of Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
Already from kilometer 1 of Liege-Bastogne-Liege Team VIRTU Cycling made sure to make a mark on the race. Louise Norman Hansen went guns blazing and opened up a gap to the peloton before she was joined by several riders.
The gap however never opened up to more than a minut and coming into the last part of the race she was brought back again only to see her teammate Claudia Koster give it a go. In the front of the peloton was Boels-Dolmans and with a high pace the also broght her back before the race hit the legendary La Redoute-climb.
The climb split the peloton in multible groups and several attacks were launched from the front. In the final part of the race Anna van der Breggen attacked and went on to take the win in the 2nd edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
“It was really good, I am really pleased with how they were racing today. We needed to try something early on because, we couldn’t do it in the finale. They were aggressive and they did a good job breaking away from the peloton,” sports director Carmen Small says.
“The result is not the best, Kasia was up there but she got caught behind a crash, and when they chased they hit a climb and the meant it was game over. We tried something and that was all I asked for today. They did a really good job with that,” Carmen Small says.
