Mieke Kröger 2nd on the final stage of Healthy Ageing Tour
Once again Mieke Kröger did an amazing race, when she made it to the breakaway and ended on the podium on the last stage of Healthy Ageing Tour.
On the final stage of Healthy Ageing Tour Mieke Kröger was once again on the offensive. She made it in a strong breakaway, that made it to the finish. A single rider was able to get away from the break, and the group sprinted for 2nd, and here Mieke Kröger was the fastest as she won the sprint.
“Mieke actually bridged across to the break, we weren’t there, but basically all other teams were. It was really good timing that she did. Boels just needed to control it, so it was a good position for us to be in. Mieke was really smart today, and think she learned her lesson from the other day,” sports director Carmen Small says.
And with Team VIRTU Cycling’s second 2nd place it has brought a taste for more, and she is happy with how the team has evolved.
“It was good overall. We had one pretty bad stage, that we recovered from with the TTT and today. We had a 5th and a 6th too, but I think naturally we should look more to the podium. We have taken a big step up from last year, the girls are racing and are making the race happen, so it is a good confidence boost towards the Ardennes Classics,” she says.
It was Aafke Soet who won the last stage, and Amy Pieters, that took the overall victory. Trine Schmidt was Team VIRTU Cycling’s best rider in the GC in 16th place.
