Mieke Kröger breaks collarbone – doubtful for the Giro
During last week’s OVO Energy Women’s Tour, Team VIRTU Cycling Women’s Mieke Kröger crashed and unfortunately broke her collarbone so now the powerful former national German champion can expect several weeks away from racing.
Mieke Kröger says:
“I was eager to hit the initial breakaway on stage 4 and several other riders were having the same idea. Unfortunately, the fight for position on the front lead to a crash as a rider went straight into me and I had no time to break the fall. My collarbone broke in several places and I am to undergo surgery tomorrow. The doctor expects I can start training on rollers again on Monday but it’s going to be a couple of weeks before I’ll be back on the road. I don’t want to rush the recovery so I’m going to take the time the healing progress requires.”
Mieke Kröger was on the start list for the Giro but her participation in the Italian race is now doubtful.
