Team VIRTU Cycling ready for Worlds – without Siggaard

In the upcoming weekend, the best riders in the world, takes on the World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria, and Team Virtu Cycling Women will participate in the team time trial with Mieke Kröger, Trine Schmidt, Louise Norman Hansen, Barbara Guarischi, Sara Penton and Doris Schweizer who replaced Christina Siggaard.

The route is 54.5 kilometers long and starts at the entrance to the Ötztal Valley. From here, the riders go through the valley on a technically rather undemanding, but very fast route with only 152 altitude meters. However, there is a small hill at Zirl that can be crucial to the outcome.

In addition to the team time trial, Sara Penton (Sweden) and Katrine Aalerud (Norway) participate in the road race World Championships. Unfortunately, the Danish World Tour team is without Christina Siggaard who is out for the rest of the season due to fatigue.

DS, Carmen Small says:

”The loss of Christina (Siggaard) is a big blow to the team but injuries and fatigue is part of cycling.  You cannot always prevent injuries and we did our very best to try to get her back to where she needed to be but unfortunately, the outcome was not what we had hoped for.  Fortunately, we have a good replacement to the team with Doris.  She brings experience to the team as a World Champion Medalist in Pomferada Spain in 2015.”
