Team VIRTU Cycling starts season of in Santos Women’s Tour Down Under
The women’s World Tour-team Team VIRTU Cycling starts out the season in Australia, when they Thursday are at the starting line at the stage race Santos Women’s Tour Down Under.
The blue jerseys of Team VIRTU Cycling are ready for action for the first time, when the women’s World Tour-team Thursday are at the starting line at stage 1 of Santos Women’s Tour Down Under. The Australian race consists of four stages in the area around Adelaide, where there are possibilities for those with a fast finish, but also those who has a flair for the climbs.
The six Team VIRTU Cycling riders at the start are riding together as teammates for the first time, and even though it takes some time to get to know each other, sports director Carmen Small expects the team to make its mark on the race.
“They need to be on the podium. I’ve told the girl that, and I think it to be possible too. My expectations are quite high because I believe in them – I’ve picked them to be on the team for a reason and I believe they can get results – it’s our time to shine,” Carmen Small says. Her focus is also to make the girls ride as a group in the race.
“First of all, we must race as a team, because we are a new group with only to returners with us, but the rest is new. It is thir first time as teammates racing together, so they have to learn to operate as a unit and as a team. That will get us the results,” she says.
One of the new riders in the team is Norwegian profile Emilie Moberg. She is on of many with a good finish in Team VIRTU Cycling and she could make a good result in Australia.
“I hope we can go there and do some good races. Personally, I feel prepared, but it is still early in the season, so I hope to contribute to a good result for the team. We have ambitions to be in the top, and we have a strong team,” Emilie Moberg says and she looks forward to start her season ‘Down Under’.
“I’m really excited. It’s my first time in Australia and doing these races, so I don’t quite know what to expect. I’ve only heard positive things about the race, and for me it will also be a new experience to go there with a new team,” she says.
Santos Women’s Down Under starts Thursday with a 115,7-kilometer stage with both start and finish in Gumeracha.
