VIRTU Cycling Women 14th on initial stage of Giro Rosa
The initial stage of the women’s Giro Rosa was executed this afternoon as a 15.5 kilometer long and flat team time trial in the picturesque streets of Verbania and Team VIRTU Cycling Women did what they could to keep up the pace all the way. However, they couldn’t quite match the favorites from Team Sunweb who won the stage by completing the course in 18.25 minutes.
Sports director, Carmen Small reports from Verbania:
”The girls were very motivated and they really dug deep to achieve a good result. However, we are not here with our best time trialists due to injuries. However, tomorrow I reckon we have a better chance of making a solid result. The stage will probably be concluded with a bunch sprint where Barbara will be our best card. But everyone on the team is free to chase a breakaway from the start of tomorrow’s stage.”
Tomorrow awaits a 120 kilometer long and undulating stage where the sprinters might get their time in the limelight.
