VIRTU Cycling Women all set for Fleche Wallone
Team VIRTU Cycling Women has had a relatively successful spring so far with victory for Christina Siggaard in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and a handful of top-5 results especially in the stage race, Healthy Ageing Tour where the VIRTU Women were second on the team time trial and Mieke Kröger was close to taking the win on the final stage of the race.
The question is, if VIRTU Cycling can come up with a plan to interrupt the dominance from the Boels Dolmans Team who are now ranking first on the World Tour and covered the first four places in the GC in Healthy Ageing Tour.
This Wednesday, Team VIRTU Cycling Women are taking on the 118.5 kilometer long one-day classic, Fleche Wallone with the respected climb over Mur de Huy. The 2015-2017 editions of the race were won by Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans). With Katrine Aalerud´s crash in Amstel Gold Race yesterday, Team VIRTU Cycling Women are hoping for Kasia Pawlowska to continue the good results:
DS, Carmen Small explains:
”With Katrine (Aalerud) out with injuries, we have to approach this race a little bit differently. With these races you have to be smart to make the selections. Yesterday, they should have realized the break was going and we really need to be there. So it’s also about communication so we can make some quick decisions on what to do while being in the situation. We should still continue to support Kasia as best as we can. The main tactic is to put her in a good position in the race, so she has the best possibilities to do a good result,” concludes Carmen.
The Fleche Wallone roster is:
Kasia Pawlowska, Claudia Koster, Louise Norman Hansen, Doris Schweizer and Christina Siggaard.
