Crash marres finale for VIRTU Women in Prudential Ride London

This evening, a delegation of Team VIRTU Cycling Women riders was gathered in London where all World Tour squads were invited to the one-day race, Prudential Ride London. The riders competed on a historically magnificent and culturally unique course. Sportingly, the race was characterized by constant high speed, and a bunch sprint concluded the race.

The pace was up from the gun and several teams wanted to maintain the peloton in one piece as there were several bonus sprints along the way. This kept opportunists from making an effort to break clear of the bunch and with 10 kilometers to go, the sprinter teams competed about the front of the field preparing to launch their sprinters. Team VIRTU Cycling Women were up there with four riders entering the final kilometre and everything was in place for a top result.

Entering the finish line, the a major crash marred the finale and VIRTU’s dreams of a top result went up in flames while up front, Kirsten Wild (Wigglehigh5) was in a league of her own and she took a convincing win.

Christina Siggaard says:

“We are doing a really good race and doing everything we have agreed upon before the start. In the last kilometer we are like beads on a string but then lightning hits and in front of me Emilie (Moberg) and a lot of other riders go down and then it’s all over. Before that, we had overcome challenges with punctures within the last ten kilometers, and it’s just sour grapes when accidents happen when the legs are up to more than this result. “
